CD4+ Test Strip Developed
A researcher in Thailand has created the first antibody strip test that evaluates the total number of CD4 positive lymphocytes. This is a key disease marker in patients with HIV and AIDS.
Current testing is completed using flow cytometry, a fairly complex sytem for hematologic analysis. Many small centers don’t have this advanced equipment, thus requiring that specimens be sent out for analysis.
Already testing with flow takes four hours. The new strip test is completed in an hour. AndĀ CD4 Select design willd facilitate testingĀ in a much broader array of settings at a significantly lower cost.
Rapid results will help guide treatment planning. CD4+ cells are an indication of underlying disease state. Quicker access to this information can allow clinicians to better use resources, rather than cautious measures in this population that is susceptible to infection.
