DNA Analysis Tools Introduced by Illumina

Illumina, Incorporated announced the launch of two new tools available for clinicians completing DNA analysis, the Infinium Human610-Quad and the Infinium HD Human1M-Duo. Announcement of the new Infinium product line was made at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference, as described in the news release from Illumina.

Each of the two products features as many as 2.3 million single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) per each BeadChip. The Human1M-Duo includes two samples per chip and the Human10-Quad has four samples per chip.

The arrays on both the Human1M Duo Bead Chip include markers for over one million diverse genetic variants. All of those can be utilized for copy number variation analysis and whole-genome phenotyping.

Advantages of the tools include the ability to double sample throughput. As well, the Infinium line reduces the requirements for DNA input by as much as 70 percent. The tools include a new (SNP) calling algorithm and enhanced signal discrimination.

Recently identified disease-associated SNPs and intelligently selected high-density SNPs in coding regions of the genome are included on the Human1M-Duo. These were added to content already available.

The products will be available for marketing during the first and second quarter of this year.
