HCSC Offers Collaborative Care System
Blue Care Connection is being launched in Texas, New Mexico, Illinois, and Oklahoma. The program is being implemented by Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), which oversees the BlueCross BlueShield plans in those four states.
The intent of the program is to improve healthcare delivery and minimize spending for care that is either ineffective or inefficient. The program is creating guidelines for best practices based on existing treatment protocols and other data compiled by the insurance company from doctor’s records and information collected from patient participants. HCSC plans to use program results to encourage physician participation through recognition of adopting identified best practices.
The program should decrease overall costs for which consumers are responsible. Further, it will reduce unwarranted spending. The company purports that the program will curb costs, allowing premium costs to be more reasonable for consumers.
