New Gene Analysis Tools Introduced
An array of new tools to study gene expression was introduced by Applied Biosystems. This new solution was derived to improve the availability of the PCR TaqMan as an assessment tool for clinician researchers. The TaqMan Express Plates are 96-well reaction plates that include dried-down assays.
Researchers can customize the design of the 96-wells with TaqMan assays that are already plated. Scientists can also determine the well location within the plate. This improves the cost-efficiency of screening specimens for the presence of targeted gene expression. Specimens from humans, as well as canine, Rhesus, rat and mouse species can be considered.
This analysis approach incorporates real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction). This laboratory method both detects and quantifies the presence of nucleic acids. The TaqMan system has been used to support RNA interference, biological pathway studies, microarray validation, and candidate gene studies.
The assays that are included as well options were chosen from the 50,000 different Gene Expression Assays available from Applied Biosystems. The assays utilized have demonstrated sensitivity, accuracy, and reproducibility. The chemistry underlying this product received a best-in-class distinction at the Life Science Industry Awards event in June. The dried assays have been demonstrated as comparable to traditional liquid assays.
The benefits of the new tools described by the company include greater efficiency and additional flexibility in the performance of research to identify and quantify the expression of genes. It can also reduce the incidence of errors, as well as streamlining and standardizing the process of gene expression assessment.
