BD Wins Design Award for Catheter that Reduces Contamination Risk

The BD Venflon Pro Safety IV Catheter received a red dot: best of the best award. The international competition is sponsored by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Wetfalen and is given to acknowledge outstanding design quality in a variety of industries. Announcement of the award was posted on the Becton, Dickinson, and Company website.

The catheter, available from BD Medical, was created to reduce the incidence of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and reduce needlestick injuries. The BD Venflon Pro Safety Catheter is recognized as being the next generation of design in safety catheters to protect healthcare workers. It includes a special feature that reduces the possibility of blood spatters during IV cannulation.

Criteria considered for the award include degree of innovation, ergonomics, functionality, ecological compatibility, clarity of function, and longevity. Award winners are chosen by an international panel.
