CMS Releases Measurement Criteria

In the next step to initiating pay-for-performance incentives, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services posted requirements for reporting on quality measures. The report explicitly describes 74 measures designated for reporting from the 2007 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI). The incentive payments will commence July 1st though year end. Healthcare providers may receive bonuses up to 1.5 percent of Medicare charges. The total amount of bonuses is capped.

The quality measures proposed by PQRI were developed in collaborative efforts with the American Medical Association and other agencies focusing on healthcare quality.
