Drug Packaging Aids Indiana Medicaid Recipients

Indiana Medicaid and Arcadia Healthcare have partnered together to deliver medication (pdf) to Medicaid recipients. Recipients who participate in the CareSelect program are eligible for participation in the DailyMed prescription program.

For now, a limited number of CareSelect recipients are being offered participation in this program. This includes persons with chronic disease, developmental disabilities, and serious mental illness.

These individuals are offered the DailyMed drug packaging system that puts all of a patient’s medication into a single packet for each day. This includes both over-the-counter medications and vitamins, as well as prescription therapies. The packets also indicate the time that patients are to take each medicine.

In addition, the pharmacy team from Arcadia provides additional medication oversight. They complete reviews of each patient’s drug regimen. This has already resulted in at least three different recommendations with respect to dosing and timing of delivery. This is particularly beneficial for patients who have a complex medication regimen.

Data gathered from early enrollment indicates that the system is helping patients maintain compliance with medication regimens. Additional benefits anticipated include a decreased rate of medication errors and hospitalization.
