Joint Commission Releases Guide
On June 26th, the Joint Commission released upgraded guidelines for patient safety which will be implemented for 2008. The goals and requirements required to maintain accreditation are updated annually.
The newly updated regulations include an action plan to reduce risks for patients who are receiving anticoagulation therapy and another to implement a plan to seek additional care guidance when a patient’s condition deteriorates. These two requirements will be integrated over time with a deadline for implementation by January 2009.
Other updates to the certifying agency guidelines include acceptance of the World Health Organization’s regulations for hand hygiene and timeliness of reporting test results within long term care facilities.
