TheraDoc Implemented by Saint Vincent Health System

Saint Vincent Health System, an integrated care delivery network, will implement the TheraDoc technology to support infection control monitoring. Additional Pennsylvania-based hospitals, 30 in total, are beginning to use the TheraDoc system. TheraDoc published a press release describing the contract award with Saint Vincent.

The system will be implemented at the Saint Vincent Health Center, which is a non-proft, 436-bed tertiary care facility and regional medical center. Included in the implementation is the TheraDoc Expert System Platform (ESP) and the Infection Control Assistant. These tools provide surveillance of infectious diseases in real-time and clinical decision support tools.

Saint Vincent has been using tools developed within the healthcare network to monitor for infectious diseases over the past 15 years. However, outside solutions to further support their endeavor were researched.

The team cites that TheraDoc was the only product reviewed that they felt enhanced their capability to manage, monitor, report, and prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAIs). Moreover, the tool supports workflow for the system’s infection control practitioners (ICPs); they are able to spend more time completing interventions and less time completing surveillance activities. Reports can be customized to meet the criteria set forth by the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and PHC4.

Among the other hospitals implementing the TheraDoc solution include the University of Pennsylvania Health System, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Thomas Jefferson Health System, and West Penn Allegheny Health System. Pennsylvania requires that hospitals report all types of HAIs. Other quality-of-care measures are also required in reporting to PHC4 and NHSN.

Electronic surveillance systems used in the State must be compatible with NHSN, a requirement fulfilled by TheraDoc. TheraDoc’s surveillance solutions include the NHSN definitions for infections.
