Report Highlights Prevention

A report issued from the 6th Annual Johns Hopkins/Healthways Disease Management Outcomes Summit focused on means to support preventive activities, with the goal of improving overall health. The publication from the conference includes a comprehensive vision of wellness supported by a multi-disciplinary team and facilitated by a system that both mitigates risk factors and improves access to care.

The broad group of participating stakeholders acknowledge that realization of this vision of health requires a complete system change, including patients (or individuals), healthcare providers, insurance payers, and policymakers. Key elements of the proposed wellness model are social support, individual’s readiness to change, availability of healthy food, the physical environment, and availability of healthcare.
