Technology Applications for Home Health Care

A number of applications using advanced technology which particularly targets applications for the growing elderly population may soon be coming to the marketplace.

A team from the University of Virginia developed an application that can detect when individuals fall in their homes. The team, which formed a start-up called Home Guardian, uses sensors in the floor to detect missteps and transmits information when a fall occurs to computers. Caregivers or a monitoring system are then notified to arrange for patient assistance. The system is currently undergoing testing.

Other technologies being examined are described in a recent article published on CNET News.
