Georgia Contract Scored by EDS
EDS has won a contract to provide management services for the Georgia Medicaid program. The company is charged with creating a next-generation Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS), as well as implementing such. News of the $391 million contract award was posted on the EDS website. The contract was initially awarded during the first quarter of 2008.
The new information technology system will support payment administration for healthcare providers, verification of Medicaid eligibility, and fosters the development of electronic health records. An additional role of the new system is to identify health trends within the State.
The MMIS created, the EDS Georgia interChange system, will be the platform for delivery of fiscal agent services for the 45,000 providers across the state who treat Medicaid recipients. Across Georgia, more than 1.2 million residents are covered by Medicaid. This is the eighth largest Medicaid program across the country.
The EDS interChange program was federally certified. This program is considered to be a model for the industry and is either in use or being implemented in over 12 states.
Five years ago, EDS had a contract with with Georgia as the fiscal agent for the Medicaid program from 1986 through 2003. The company currently serves as the fiscal agent for 22 different states.
