MetroHealth Adopts Centricity from GE

MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio has adopted a laboratory information system (LIS) from GE Healthcare, Centricity LIS. News of the system deployment was described by the 24 x 7 Weekly Jolt.

The Centricity system adopted is the 4.0 version. It supports paperless workflow capabilities in the laboratory setting, as well as utilization of bar coding. These can all be used for completion of laboratory tasks including anatomic pathology, microbiology, and general laboratory testing.

Features that encouraged the adoption of the Centricity system include real-time patient visibility and paperless capability, as well as the consolidation of operations across three significant divisions within the system. The system also generates bar code labels for specimens at the point of collection. When samples are sent to the lab, the bar code is scanned. This feature decreases the opportunity for specimen mislabeling.

The deployment provides the MetroHealth System a paperless, automated system to track specimens and monitor receipt of such into the laboratory setting.

MetroHealth is affiliated with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Over 500 clinicians practice within the System.
