Philips SpeechMagic Employed in Mass Voice Recognition Project
The largest clinical facility in Norway, the Ulleval University Hospital in Oslo, is deploying SpeechMagic from Royal Philips Electronics. The system will be made available to more than 1,000 doctors at the facility, from all ranges of medical specialties. News of the deal was posted on HealthTechWire.
Hospital officials are implementing the system to support improvements to institution medical records, reduce administrative costs, and increase the rate at which documentation can be completed. It is further hoped that this will result in overall improvements to patient care, particularly noting the advantages associated with patient safety. An additional benefit is cost savings within the facility through streamlined information flow.
The deployment is expected to be completed near the beginning of 2009. It is expected to be the largest single hospital site deployment of front-end speech recognition software.
The hospital already deployed the SpeechMagic system in the radiology department. Results from such improved the times to complete reports, decreasing turnaround time by over 96 percent.
The Speech Recognition Systems were awarded the 2007 Global Excellence Award from Frost and Sullican for healthcare speech recognition.
