Veteran’s Health and Carestream Sign Imaging Deal

Carestream Health, Incorporated announced a deal with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) New England Region for imaging solutions. The contract is in the multi-million dollar range. The contract award was described in a press release from Carestream.

Eight VHA hospitals, covering all the VHA facilities in the region, will receive Carestream imaging information technology products, including the KODAK CARESTREAM PACS. Also included with the deal is support to migrate current PACS applications to the Carestream solution. Additional features included are orthopaedic surgical templates, native 3D viewing of imaging studies, and integrated voice detection. Each hospital will have three years of image storage capability.

The Carestream product line for PACS includes a virtual desktop environment. Authorized users may access any application included in the solution. Applications include 3D processing which can be completed directly from the desktop. The product includes streaming capability, which decreases the need for networks with large bandwidth connections. Further, the streaming capability of the platform can support complex imaging, such as with cardiac CT and 3D image files.

Also including are tools to support workflow in the radiology departments using local radiology information systems. A regional list with each patient’s complete imaging studies will be created. A central repository with five years storage capability will be developed and overseen by KODAK CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions.

The VHA region participating in the deal includes Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
