Wireless Internet Comes to HealthSouth Rehab

In a step to broaden the appeal to potential patients and families considering options for rehabilitation, HealthSouth announced plans to launch free wireless at all of the company’s facilities. The service will also be available to HealthSouth staff members.

HealthSouth will deploy a wireless system from Wayport, Incorporated. A pilot test is already underway at twelve HealthSouth rehab centers, were the service was already installed.

Access points will cross facilities in those areas frequented by patients and visitors. Plans also include installation of public PCs, the CyberCenter express unit from Wayport. Planned locations include the cafeteria, waiting areas, patient rooms, and other common areas in each of the company’s 94 facilities.

HealthSouth also completed a contract with Wayport to provide wide area network failure services. This will support the private wireless networks.
