New Mobile Devices Switch Between Wi-Fi and Cellular
Agito Networks, Incorporated launched new technology that allows cellular devices to automatically switch from Wi-Fi to cellular networks and the reverse, the RoamAnywhere Mobility Router. News was detailed in a press release issued by the company.
The new technology design allows companies to utilize their internal wireless local area network to run their cellular phones. This enables healthcare workers, such as home healthcare nurses, to use one device to to transmit, receive, and collect data whether in the office or the field.
A number of products are ready to work with the device at this time; such as phones from Nokia, Avaya and Cisco PBX telephone exchanges, and the Aruba, Cisco, Trapeze, and Meru Wi-Fi networks.
The organization is completing a pilot program to evaluate the system. Early estimates suggest that $200,000 in cellular phone expenses may be saved each year. Agito expects to see a return on investment within a 13 month period. Of the existing pool of Agito users, 20 participated in the pilot program.
In addition, the organization procured funding from Battery Ventures, an equity firm, for $9 million to support development of this technology.
