MD & DI Name Manufacturer Award Winners
The Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry (MD & DI) award winners for Manufacturers of the Year were announced in the Medical Device Link: Intuitive Surgical, Incorporated and Integra LifeSciences Corporation. Though the two companies have entirely distinct product lines, both have been able to foster successful operations around groundbreaking technology.
Intuitive Surgical is well renowned for its robotic surgery tools and was a pioneer in the development of such. Rather than expanding their business focus to other arenas, the organization has continued to expand the application of robotic-assisted procedures and tools available for use during those. Intuitive has been successful in securing the support of the medical community for robotic-assisted approaches. In addition, partnerships to create complementary tools ensure the company’s future growth.
Integra has a completely different business focus, the development of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. The commonality with Intuitive, at least one, is that the company was a pioneer in their field. The initial product created was technology that allowed patients to regrow skin and other cells, but it was only utilized on a limited basis. To continue growing, both research and development efforts and acquisition expanded. This growth fostered increased use of their technology across the healthcare market.
