UpToDate Purchased by Wolters Kluwer

UpToDate, an organization that provides evidence-based electronic clinical information resources, completed an agreement to be purchased by Wolters Kluwer Health. The terms of the deal were not shared publicly. The transaction is expected to be finalized during the last quarter of 2008, pending regulatory approval.

Wolters Kluwer suggests that the acquisition will expand the company’s portfolio of offerings for the electronic medical record and point of care markets, as well as the clinical decision support market. Wolters Kluwer provides business intelligence and information for members of the healthcare market.

UpToDate is based in Massachusetts. The company works with recognized expert clinicians to develop recommendation templates for diagnosis and treatment that are peer-reviewed and evidence-based.

The company’s goal is to improve clinical decision making at the point of care by leveraging information. Information is made available in a wide array of formats, including access through a PDA, the internet, or a desktop computer.
