Mayo and Microsoft Team Up

A new partnership between the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft and the division of health solutions at the Mayo Clinic was recently announced. The two are working together to develop solutions geared to healthcare consumers to assist them in health management.

The collaborative members envision a new healthcare system that encourages patient participation. In particular, they recognize the opportunity to use technology solutions to overcome some of the gaps identified in the current system. A secondary goal of the effort is to increase the amount of patient involvement with their physicians, as well as their own health.

The team will leverage the HealthVault Web portal platform, developed by Microsoft, to provide consumers with access to a variety of tools and clinical content. Incorporated in that system will be internet-based consumer health tools offered by Mayo Clinic Health Solutions. Those applications include a portal, health risk assessment tools, and content applications. The Mayo organization also has print and telephonic programs in addition to those services available through the internet.

More information about the planned activities for the collaboration are forthcoming.
