MEDRAD Will Distribute Portable Analyzer

An exclusive radiology distribution agreement was signed by MEDRAD and Abbott Point of Care. News of the deal was posted on the MEDRAD website.

MEDRAD has the exclusive rights to distribute Abbott’s i-STAT System portable blood analyzer. MEDRAD notes the application of this tool for the radiology setting, particularly in light of recent concerns about the incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Kidney function can be measured in the radiology setting before delivery of contrast agents.

The i-STAT system includes CHEM8+ analysis, which has a CLIA waiver. The device itself includes a handheld device and kit cartridges, results are delivered in less than three minutes. This test set evaluates nine different metabolites, including creatinine which evaluates renal function.

The goal of the distribution agreement is to improve patient safety and meet the needs of customers.
