Partnership Identifies Uninsured

The CapitolCare Collaborative is using internet-based software to contain costs associated with treating uninsured patients, particularly targeting decreased use of the emergency room for routine care.

The Collaborative includes eight health systems and clinics, plus County agencies serving Wake County, North Carolina. The program’s software identifies and refers patients to appropriate healthcare resources such as Medicaid. It also includes a database where providers can access patient’s financial information, in addition to patient records to prevent duplication of diagnostic procedures.

Future plans include linking patients to pharmaceutical programs for uninsured persons to obtain prescription drugs. The News Observer has more details.
