A Conversation With Alfred E. Mann
Molly Joel Coye, CEO and founder of the Health Technology Center, interviews at length Alfred Mann, chairman of the board and CEO of MannKind Corporation and Advanced Bionics Corporation and chairman of the Alfred E. Mann Foundation for Biomedical Engineering. Mr. Mann was involved in a dozen other companies he founded over a long and fruitful career, with significant contributions in cardiac pacemakers and cochlear implants. He also funded institutes meant to bridge the gap between developing a new technology in a university and turning it into an actual product (see for instance the AMI at USC).
The interview covers a lot of ground, including how to start a company and make breakthroughs in the medical marketplace. Good questions and interesting answers. Read the whole thing in Health Affairs.
