Aetna Names New Strategy Officer
Gery J. Barry was recently appointed by Aetna as the company’s new Chief Strategy Officer. He will also serve on the company’s Executive Committee. In this role, he will report to the company’s CEO and Chairman.
Mr. Barry served as the CEO and President of Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana since 2004. During his tenure with that organization, he oversaw the effort to realign the company’s culture and senior management team. That included development of a new infrastructure for the organization which is modernized.
He also established a new strategic vision for the organization that helped to increase growth for the company’s core business. Mr. Barry led the company in its response to both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. He additionally supported the development of health reform initiatives for the State.
Prior to working there, Mr. Barry worked for Liberty Mutual over a seven year period. In that role, he was the company’s country leader for Canada and was the CEO and president of Liberty Health.
