Medtronic Announces New Chairman

The Board of Directors at Medtronic elected a new Chairman of the Board, William A. Hawkins. Mrs. Hawkins is currently serving as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Hawkins was initially appointed as both President and CEO in August 2007. He previously served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer and President for over three years.

The current Chairman of the large device company, Arthur D. Collins, Jr. is planning to retire shortly. He has served as President of the Board since 2002. Mr. Hawkins will replace him at that time; commencing the post August 21st. Plans for the reorganization were initially announced in February of this year.

Another organizational change is the appointment of Kendall J. Powell as Chairman of the Board’s Corporate Governance Committee. Mr. Powell currently holds a post with General Mills, as CEO and Chair.
