New Chair Named for National Patient Safety Foundation
The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) announced that a new Chair of the Board has been appointed, Pamela A. Thompson, MS, RN, FAAN. She has held a post on the organization’s Board of Directors since 2002. Notably, her appointment as Chair marks the first time that a registered nurse has been appointed to this post.
Ms. Thompson currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). That professional organization is for nurses who participate in the design, facilitation, and management of healthcare and is a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association (AHA). She also serves as a member of the senior management team for the AHA.
Prior to her current positions, Ms. Thompson served as vice president for the Children’s Hospital, Obstetrics, Psychiatric Services, and Strategic Planning at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. She previously served with state and national association work, as well as serving as President of the New Hampshire Organization of Nurse Executive.
Two other individuals have also been named to the NPSF Board of Directors. Gary Kaplan, MD, FACP, FACMPE, FACPE was named Vice Chair of the Board and Charles Brenda PhD, CPCU, ARM was appointed Secretary.
