AHRQ Requests Health Care Data Quality Agency
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), recognizing the almost overwhelming amount of data increasingly collected in the world of healthcare, requested that an agency dedicated to data oversight be created by the federal government. The proposed entity is the National Health Data Stewardship Entity (NHDSE).
The organization would create data standards and provide strategies for exchanging and evaluating data, particularly those used to assess quality and efficiency efforts.
In light of growing interest in all things data related within the community, from outcomes (adverse events, survival following heart attacks) to pricing, some guidance will at least provide some unbiased (hopefully) guidance and organization.
This may be particularly advantageous to the general public. Data reporting can easily be skewed and this agency may ensure effective communication tactics with relatively unbiased assessments.
