Boston Scientific Wins LEED Certification

In recognition of the company’s efforts to support environmental considerations, Boston Scientific’s recently renovated facility in Marlborough received a LEED certification, as noted by the company. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

The LEED Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the expansion of sustainable practices in construction. A rating system was developed to reward facilities that meet these criteria and, moreover, accelerate the adoption of these practices.

Features noted at the facility include a state-of-the-art ventilation system to better control delivery of heating and cooling as needed. Low flow plumbing fixtures installed decrease water use. As well, a heat-reflective, insulated roof was installed to reduce building requirements for cooling.

Recyclable materials were used during construction when possible. Special materials were also incorporated during construction to limit the release of hazardous compounds. As well, the company arranged for the majority of the waste produced during construction to be recycled.

Other features integrated support lower operating expenses and a higher quality environment for employees. The Endosurgery Group at Boston Scientific is based at the acknowledged campus. The facility includes both laboratory and business space.

Boston Scientific was also recently awarded a Central Mass Green Award from the Worcester Business Journal.
