Real-Time Claims Launched by UnitedHealth
UnitedHealth commenced a new real-time claims submission process via the internet in January. The program allows physician providers to enter patient eligibility and treatment codes; costing information is provided within ten seconds.
This new billing process significantly reduces the time for claims to be completed. UnitedHealth provides complete cost information for the office visit; including reimbursement costs determined by provider-insurer payment schedules, patient’s co-pay, and the amount of reimbursement.
This claims process also requires less paperwork. UnitedHealth plans to expand the program to allow online claims processing for third-party processing.
