Report Notes Growth in MRI Equipment
InMedica recently issued a report evaluating the state of the market globally for MRI equipment, “World Market for MRI Equipment”. One notable finding is the growing market for refurbished equipment.
Overall, the report suggests that the international market for MRI equipment will close in on $3.5 billion by the year 2012. The expected growth, according to the report, is partly a function of the increased interest in purchasing systems that have been rebuilt and “economy” systems.
Another factor that will propel growth in this area is more use of systems with higher field strength. In the future, the report projects, 3.0T systems will be the standard. Though, increased use of such will depend on reimbursement schedules, particularly that which influences Medicare payments.
Part of the growth for this segment of equipment is explained by the increasing interest in cost-effective approaches that can include MRI assessment. This is, perhaps, the largest factor that explains the growth observed in refurbished MRI systems. The U.S. actually had the most growth in purchases of such systems during 2007.
