Texas Unveils Transparency Initiative

A new website was unveiled this week by the Texas Hospital Association (THA). Texas Price Point includes data from all Texas hospitals so that patients can compare cost for services and view outcomes data by examining information available on either a single hospital or comparing criteria between multiple facilities.

The effort was spearheaded by the THA to provide patients the data to make educated choices as they manage their own healthcare. Data for the website is provided from the Texas Health Care Information Collection which gathers hospital data, information collected from annual hospital surveys, and information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

The website is operated by a subsidiary of the Wisconsin Hospital Association. Other states launched similar sites; including Iowa, Utah, Georgia, Virginia, Oregon, Washington, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Wisconsin.
