UnitedHealth Endorses Quality Measures

The President and CEO of UnitedHealth Group, Stephen J. Hemsley, publicly announced ongoing support for performance outcomes measures and other tools to support consumer decision-making in healthcare.

He specifically cited the company’s own Premium Designation Program. That effort provides consumers with outcomes data on both healthcare costs and quality of healthcare providers and facilities.

Among UnitedHealth members using the program, almost one-fifth switched their choice of provider based on information available from the Premium Designation Program.

Mr. Hemsley voiced his support for outcomes activities at an event sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services. The event was held to garner support for initiatives that advocate value-driven healthcare.
