Congress Members Rally to Prevent Medicare Cuts
President Bush’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2008 includes over $100 billion in cuts to the hospital component of both Medicare and Medicaid. Both the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (pdf) and the American Hospital Association oppose the proposed cuts. Over 200 representatives signed a letter to leaders of the House Budget Committee voicing opposition to the proposed cuts. The letter further recommended updates to the hospital payment schedules for each federal system to account for increased costs associated with inflation.
The House Budget Committee (pdf) is expected to commence review of Bush’s proposed budgets within the next few weeks.
