CAD for Virtual Colonoscopy Introduced
Siemens Medical Solutions is updating their CAD product for syngo Colonography Polyp Enhanced Viewing (PEV) software application. The tool is designed to support assessment of imaging for the presence of polyps.
The tool is designed to support capture of objects between 6 and 25 mm in size that are shaped like polyps. The tool can be used in patients who use either solid-liquid tagging or clean-prepping protocols to prepare for the imaging study.
The software is the second iteration of the program created by Siemens. To fine tune the previous version, the company evaluated over 1,700 CT colonographs collected from sites all over the world. Collected were images that utilized various protocols for bowel preparation, as well as different parameters for CT acquisition.
The company also recently released a new application to support radiology workflow specific to computed tomography, an auto processing feature. The system completes a variety of tasks, including pre-processing of CT images from different specialties ranging from acute care, cardiology, and cardiology. Thus, when the image is accesses the PEV function, the CAD component has already highlighted areas of interest.
