Cardinal Health Smart IV Pump Gets Accolades

KLAS Enterprise is a national organization dedicated to assessing healthcare devices and providing unbiased evaluation and reports. The organization recently added smart IV pumps to the list of instruments reviewed. Cardinal Health’s Alaris system received top marks in the report.

The Cardinal Health device includes a component dedicated to monitor for potential adverse events secondary to medication errors. The company’s Guardrails software system includes comprehensive monitoring for a variety of systems to ensure appropriate medication delivery and addresses a wide variety of medications.

The Alaris system also includes components for monitoring respiration, a PCA pump, and a bar code scanning. As well, it integrates wireless technology to link medication information to an electronic medical record.
