Pump Acquisition Inservice Planned by ECRI

In collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, ECRI Institute will offer a seminar to provide guidance about the acquisition of infusion pump technology. The seminar will be offered twice, October 11th and October 23rd, as detailed on the organization website.

“Get the Facts on Acquiring Smarter Pumps” will be held at ECRI’s headquarters in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The workshop will include clinical components influencing pump choice, information from professionals who evaluate medical devices, and the opportunity to use devices to teach acquisition strategies. One goal of the program is to offer attendees information on best practices.

Topics that will be covered by experts presenting at the meeting include:

  • An overview of the market for infusion technology,
  • The role of infusion pumps in medication safety efforts,
  • Factors important in evaluation and selection of infusion pumps,
  • Guidelines for assessing facility readiness for implementation, including infrastructure requirements, and
  • Implication of pumps on workflow and clinical outcomes.

The program is geared to a variety of members of hospital facility staff, including clinical staff, pharmacy directors, medical directors, education directors, biomedical engineers, IT directors, and materials managers, among others. Acquisition planning, particularly for infusion pumps, requires input from a variety of disciplines involved in the delivery of care.
