Vocera Badges Endorsed by AHA

The Solutions, Incorporated unit of the American Hospital Association announced an endorsement for the wearable, hands-free voice communication badges offered by Vocera Communications, noted on the Vocera website. The system is the only instant communication tool endorse by the group.

The Vocera badges integrate speech recognition technology with both Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and WiFi. The system allows for healthcare providers to communicate with each other seamlessly using a wireless local area network. The system is used by workers with simple voice commands.

Benefits of this technology include the ability for healthcare providers to communicate with each other immediately throughout a facility. Availability of such a tool can increase the likelihood that communication is more thorough, which should improve patient safety.

The system is now available from AHA Solutions through the Patient Flow Platform. The Vocera tool was evaluated, prior to receiving the endorsement, in terms of patient flow, patient safety, and patient experience. Data collected indicates that implementation of Vocera can eliminate time spent by nurses to search for resources required for care by up to two hours.
