Asteral Nets Contract with University Hospitals of Leicester

Asteral has announced a contract deal (pdf) completed with University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The deal amounts to $274.9 million for managed equipment services (MES) over 18.9 years.

Asteral will be responsible for the installation, commission, maintenance, and management of the most up to date available equipment. Services will be provided to all of the University Hospital Leicester Trust sites.

Additional services provided by Asteral include training, project management, and on-site support services. A guarantee was written into the executed contract to ensure that equipment will be readily available. In particular, this refers to improved accuracy and speed of varied digital equipment components. These facets of the contract are intended to decrease patients waiting times and help patients move faster through the healthcare system.

A rolling replacement program also covers the equipment to be installed, with pre-determined time frames for replacement of each type of equipment. Tools that are included are MRI, CT, ultrasound, interventional fluoroscopy, digital x-ray rooms, static and mobile mammography services, cardiac catheter labs, and three separate robotic pharmacies.

Three different hospitals comprise the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital, and Leiscester General Hospital. Combined, the three have over 12,000 staff members and serve over two million area residents.

Asteral provides managed equipment services to the NHS. The company has managed medical equipment over the past ten years. Asteral previously completed a contract with NHS Leicester in 2003 for radiology equipment.
