3M Software Supports Computer-Assisted Coding
A new software solution that supports computer-assisted coding was introduced by 3M. The Codefinder Computer-Assisted Edition supports efficiency in hospital coating, as described in the press release from the company. The company also showcased the tool at the 3M Health Information Systems National User Group Meeting just recently held.
The solution incorporates intelligent mapping and expert logic tools to both interpret and analyze text from clinical documents. This is completed with an extensive powerful terminology engine of medical terms. This process automates identification of codes which can then be reviewed by expert coders.
The new iteration of Codefinder was integrated with 3M’s Coding and Reimbursement System. This provides users with a single desktop view to validate, edit, and perform final coding. The tool can also be integrated with other document creation and management products available from 3M.
The entire system, at minimum, simplifies the coding process by eliminating the need to complete manual review of patient records. With the automation of this task, coders can focus their energy on ensuring that codes are accurate and within compliance. One benefit of such is more timely reimbursement from payors.
