An Interview with Allscripts’ CEO

HISTalk has a long interview with Glen Tullman, Chairman and CEO of Allscripts. Mr. Tullman covers a lot of ground, including:

  • their acquisition of A4 and how it made sense because of low clientele overlap since A4 sold into smaller practices.
  • Allscripts’ mission is expanding beyond clinical software to encompass information and connectivity.
  • Their market is divived in four segments in all of which they intend to compete: specialty practices, groups of less than ten physicians, groups of 10-24 doctors and multispecialty practices, and finally larger groups of 25+ physicians. Tullman explained what he thinks are the unique needs of each of these segments.
  • The company is not looking to sell its profitable medication distribution division though it acknowledges it will grow marginal because of its relatively slower growth.
  • How Allscripts works well with IDX (part if GE since last January) and sometimes competes against them depending on the customer’s legacy and wishes.

There’s much more, read it all.
