EMC Provides System Infrastructure for Norton Healthcare
Delivery of information at the point-of-care will be enhanced across the Norton Healthcare System through integration of the EMC infrastructure. The announcement was posted on the EMC website.
The Norton Healthcare System utilizes a hospital information system to manage the majority of patient information. Key pieces of information are compiled into a consolidated view of an individual patient that includes charting, pre-admission data, cardiology and radiology images, and medication information.
To support this system, Norton is deploying a 400-terabyte information infrastructure from EMC. Products included are the EMC Symmetrix DIX, EMC Celera network-attached storage, EMC Clarion networked storage systems, and EMC Centera content-addressed storage. Other tools that are being implemented by Norton include Navisphere, TimeFinder and Performance Management Software, EMC SRDF/Synchronous, and EMC Control Center.
The Healthsystem is already using the Networker software from EMC. This system is the common interface used for backup to existing tape libraries at Norton and the EMC Disk Library.
The system will provide clinical staff with reliable access to data needed to deliver proper care and treatment. This will also support the IT staff as they manage continuous growth of medical information.
The Norton Healthcare System includes four acute care facilities in Louisville, along with ten Immediate Care Centers. The system employs almost 2,000 total physicians.
