Florida AHCA Awards Pharmaceutical Management Contract to ACS

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) recently signed a contract with Affiliated Computer Services, Incorporated (ACS). The goal of the collaborative effort is to utilize best practice guidelines to increase active control of pharmcologic therapy in the Medicaid program, thus improving overall patient care. ACS published a news release detailing the contract.

The total deal will amount to $11 million over a four and a half year period if all of the contract options, three one year extensions each, are exercised. Contract services are required by Florida law governing Medicaid operations for Drug Therapy Management.

ACS will provide the state’s Medicaid program with two electronic health record software applications, DirectCAREPro and CyberAccess, both are web-enabled, population health management solutions, as well as criteria development and analysis. Both the electronic records programs include prescription support for decision-making, including patients medication use and drug allergies.

Another effort will include the development and implementation of strategies to provide ongoing education to healthcare providers about medication utilization, as well as patient education efforts. That program is intended to drive patients to become more actively involved in their own care.

ACS is a nationally recognized organization that supports state healthcare program administration through a collaborative approach with those providers. A variety of systems are available to support an integrated solution. They also support efforts to minimize abuse and fraud, as well as programs to contain costs.
