GE and BSD Medical Announce Collaboration
GE Healthcare and BSD Medical announced plans to collaborate on technology that will improve the means by which clinicians can monitor how patients respond to treatment for cancer. The BSD cancer treatment system will be integrated into GE MRI systems.
The technology from BSD Medical, the BS-2000/3D/MR is a cancer treatment system that utilizes MRI to monitor the results of deep thermal therapy. Effects of therapy are monitored with thermal imaging using MR-tomography. The images created are in color and temperature is differentiated with color coding.
The first system with this configuration will be installed at Duke University. This is the first time that the two companies have partnered together. BSD, however, worked with Siemens Medical Systems to integrate cancer monitoring systems with MRI technology from Siemens.
BSD Medical specializes in the development of tools to precisely deliver microwave/RF energy. This technology is designed to destroy malignant cells and may increase the effectiveness of treatment when combined with radiation therapy.
