HMA Gets Wireless Medication Administration from Intellidot

According to IntelliDOT Corporation, Health Management Associates (HMA) has selected its CAREt handheld bar code scanning technology to handle the administration of drugs to patients. HMA owns 55 acute care hospitals in rural areas in the south/southeast U.S. and Washington State and will roll out this solution over three years. Nurses will use lightweight wireless handheld devices to perform bedside safety checks. In the backend, CAREt servers are connected to the pharmacy information system and hospital admission, discharge and transfer (ADT). The 8-oz (227 grams) handhelds communicate with the servers through 802.11b/g wireless networks and last 14 hours before they need to be recharged.

Jim Jordan, senior vice president and chief information officer for HMA, was quoted as saying “[IntelliDOT’s] unique software application integrated seamlessly with our existing systems, and the custom-designed hardware was easily adopted by nursing. These two factors are critical to a successful technology implementation.”
