IntelliDOT, Cisco Collaborate to Develop Wireless Asset Locating System
A new, mobile solution to manage clinical assets is being developed by Cisco and IntelliDOT. The two organizations are bringing together their unique areas of expertise to create such a system for use in the healthcare environment.
IntelliDOT specializes in the creation of handheld, wireless barcode point-of-care (BPOC) solutions. Cisco, alternatively provides organizations with enterprise wireless LAN infrastructure.
The planned solution is based on an enhancement to the IntelliDOT CAREt System BPOC solution. This will be integrated with Cisco’s Context Aware Mobility solution. The two will be linked with an open application programming interface using Cisco’s 3300 Series Mobility Services Engine. The new system will utilize an existing 802.11 WLAN in a hospital.
The Cisco software provides information related to context. With the IntelliDOT handheld unit, hospital staff members can access information in real-time to locate system assets both efficiently and safely. This will save time by eliminating the need to log on to a computer system.
The system will help locate assets such as portable vital signs monitoring equipment, wheelchairs, patient medical charts, IV infusion pumps, handheld electronic thermometers, and personnel.
