TomoTherapy to Launch Treatment Software

TomoTherapy, Incorporated will introduce a new solution to streamline patient care with the TomoTherapy Hi-Art system for delivery of radiation therapy next week at the American Association of Physicists, according to a press release from the company.

StatRT was developed to minimize the time necessary to complete radiation therapy, including the relevant preliminary scanning with CT, treatment planning, and delivery of radiation therapy treatment. The software is run with the Operator Station from Hi-Art to initiate a treatment plan which integrates image-guided, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IG/IMRT).

The StatRT program allows these processes to be completed within 30 minutes, for all the elements described. This translates to being able to complete all necessary planning within one office visit.

Benefits noted with the system are improved delivery of radiation as targeted, which spares tissue that does not require treatment. A benefit of such is that patients better tolerate therapy. As well, the reduced amount of time to deliver treatment provides benefits for patients and providers alike.
