Wireless DR Detector System Introduced by Carestream

A new wireless digital radiography (DR) detector was launched by Carestream Health, the DRX-1. The new device can be utilized with existing table-based or wall stand buckys. It about the size of a small standard cassette.

The system components include a wireless 14 x 17-inch cassette-size DR detector, along with a console. These tools provide conversion for those radiology teams that utilize either computed radiography (CR) or radiographic film systems.

The new Carestream device does not require any type of modification to analog systems that are already in use. The DRX-1 system was designed to be easily integrated into any existing x-ray suite, which significantly reduces costs associated with installation.

The wireless detector can be used in any situation where it is warranted, including for difficult views completed. The design and flexibility enhance comfort for patients. Preview images can be delivered in less than five seconds, which improves productivity in the radiology setting. The wireless feature further supports flexibility.

The small device weighs in at 8.5 pounds, making it thirty percent lighter than other devices. The detector is less than half the size of detectors currently available on the market. The slim device profile further supports convenience of utilization.

The system is still under development at Carestream Health and incorporates the KODAK DirectView CR and DR systems. The company anticipates fully launching the system in the beginning of 2009.
