Hospitals Facilitate EMR Adoption

Summa Health Network in Akron, Ohio is providing grant funding to assist physician practices finance and implement EMRs. They additionally provide server space for data storage plus other sorts of technical support.

To further encourage EMR adoption, Summa negotiated pay-for-performance incentives with local insurers Anthem, that serves Northeast Ohio. Physician practices receive incentive payments for adopting EMRs.

This support from hospitals may enhance relationships between providers and hospitals. An important note is that physicians often direct the choice of facilities where patients receive care.

One of the recent practices to adopt EMR with Summa’s help, Ohio Family Practice, already noted benefits of the system which allows access to records from any location with internet access. One example is being able to access patient charts on weekends when they are seen in the emergency room.
