Tracking Reusable Devices
RFID applications continue to hit the healthcare market, offering electronic support for materials managers. Solstice Medical, LLC expanded its offerings (pdf) with a product suitable for devices and instruments that are re-used in the healthcare setting.
The MD3 tags are medical grade rigid RFID tags. Keeping in mind the intended application, devices are biocompatible and capable of undergoing sterilization techniques such as autoclave, which entails exposure to extremely high temperatures throughout the device lifecycle.
Another key capability is metal compatibility for device reading across distance. The RFID tags were specifically designed for surgical tools and devices, including instrument cases and instruments, as well as implantable devices.
