Medical Device Association to Lobby On Value

The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) is about to start a print, online and outdoor advertising campaign targeting the Washington DC area. The trade group, itself headquartered in DC, counts American producers of medical devices, diagnostic products and health information systems as its members. It used to be focused primarily on regulatory matters handled by the FDA, but this forthcoming campaign illustrates a growing interest for reimbursement and Medicare issues. The campaign will aim to convey the value brought by medical products such as artificial knees. Besides, AdvaMed is pushing for one piece of legislation that would have Medicare cover remote monitoring technology, while another law would freshen Medicare’s rates on some advanced diagnostics. With healthcare now the biggest slice of the US economy while the federal budget is heavily in deficit, it is obvious that the fast-growing Medicare and Medicaid budgets will continue to feel pressure.

Previously this month AdvaMed hired Michael J. McGarry as its new Public Affairs Executive Vice President and Madeleine Smith as Senior Vice President in the Payment and Health Care Delivery Department. Forbes reports.
